Reiki (pronounced ‘ray-key’), is an energy healing system founded by Mikao Usui in Japan during the early 20th Century. The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words: ‘rei’ meaning Universal Spirit and ‘ki’ meaning life-force energy. This Universal life-force energy flows through all living things.
When this energy flows uninterrupted, there is balance within us and around us and we experience good health and a sense of well-being. However, sometimes the energy can become weakened or blocked, and if left unchecked, can lead to ill-health. The practice of Reiki is a non-invasive, hands-on healing technique where the practitioner channels life-force energy to treat the whole person, removing energy blockages to bring the mind, body and spirit back into balance. Reiki is a gentle, yet powerful energy therapy that harmonises the energy systems within the body and reinforces the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
While the foundations of Reiki are spiritual, it is not a religion. A Reiki treatment will not compromise any religious beliefs you may have and you do not have to believe anything specific to benefit from Reiki healing. As a natural form of healing, Reiki can support and enhance other forms of treatment, complementing Western medicine and working alongside modern healthcare practices.
