Mindful Eating coaching tailored to you

The Mindful Eating coaching programme is designed to explore your unique challenges with food, eating and body within a safe space, free from judgement and criticism. Together, we approach Mindful Eating with a combination of curiosity and compassion to:

  • Investigate the different types of hunger that compel us to eat.
  • Explore the sensations of hunger, satisfaction and fullness.
  • Understand the impact of unwanted food habits and how to break them
  • Understand the causes of over-eating, binge-eating and emotional eating, and learn how to nourish yourself without food.

Before we start working together, I ask you to complete a short questionnaire about your struggles with food, eating and body. Your answers help me tailor the sessions to your unique challenges and structure the programme to focus on your individual needs. Here’s what we could cover in the Mindful Eating programme:

An introduction to Mindful Eating
We establish the foundations of our coaching relationship by exploring your food story and what has brought you to the Mindful Eating coaching programme. We discuss the food, eating and body challenges you’re struggling with and what you want to achieve by doing the programme – what the ideal looks like for you. Then we learn how to bring your full awareness to food and eating with a guided Mindful Eating meditation. With a mindset of curiosity and compassion, we ask ‘who’s hungry in there?’ This question is the backbone of the Mindful Eating programme and reminds you to connect with the wisdom of your body to find the answer.

The Eight Hungers of Mindful Eating
In a society where food is abundant, food begins to serve many purposes and the desire to eat can be driven by many types of hunger. In this session, we introduce the Eight Hungers of Mindful Eating and learn how to untangle thoughts and emotions from the different experiences of hunger. We understand which hungers are the most powerful in driving your desire to eat and discover how to satisfy them without food.

Exploring Stomach and Body Hunger, fullness and satisfaction
There’s much more to hunger than a rumbling tum! However, for most people with an unbalanced relationship to food, the physical sensations of hunger and fullness have been lost. In this session we explore what Stomach Hunger and the subtle sensations of Body Hunger feel like to you and how you respond to them. At the other end of the scale, we explore the sensations of fullness and many layers in between to find where the body is most at peace. Through Mindful Eating, you learn to reconnect with the wisdom of your stomach, honour your hunger and live in harmony with the intelligence of your body.

Heart Hunger and emotional eating
It’s easy to associate food with love, comfort and reward. It starts from the moment we are born and continues as food is used to celebrate birthdays, special family occasions, cultural events and life’s significant milestones. It is inevitable that we develop an emotional connection to food but the problem comes when eat to fill a hole in our hearts. We explore the range of emotional eating – from pleasure to punishment – and how you are using food to fulfil your emotional needs. We then create a plan to nourish your heart hunger, and honour your emotions, without food.

Mind hunger
Mind hunger is based on your thoughts – the ‘shoulds’ and ‘should nots’ of food, eating and drinking – and comprises the Food Police, the Rebel and the Inner Critics. We explore each of the ever-present voices of Mind Hunger and the power they have over your food choices and eating behaviours. We defer to the wisdom of your body to challenge the rules of the Food Police, create boundaries to manage the Rebel and shine the spotlight of awareness on the destructive voices of the Inner Critics. Through Mindful Eating, we learn how to quiet the voices of Mind Hunger and restore balance by returning to the truth of the present moment.

Food habits
We take a light-hearted look at the food habits you learned as a child that may still be operating on a sub-conscious level. Maybe you eat at high speed barely chewing or tasting the food, or eat in anticipation, just in case you might be hungry later? Perhaps you always clear your plate or eat when the clock tells you it’s mealtime? By uncovering your food habits, you can awaken from the autopilot and break free from the hold they have on you.

Body Acceptance
How you feel about your body often informs your relationship with food and eating, from restricting food in the desire to be slim to overeating as a form of self-sabotage. We focus on healing this negative relationship so you can accept the body you have today and move forward from a place of love. With the focus on gratitude and respect, we explore how you can appreciate and nurture yourself and your precious body with kindness.

The Mindful Eating programme comprises:
  • 12 x 90 minute one-to-one coaching sessions that take place either weekly or fortnightly.
  • Because Mindful Eating is based on your unique experience and insights in between sessions, there is homework to help you deepen your learning.
  • Email or text support in between coaching sessions as needed.
  • A warm and positive coaching partnership to support you with every step of your Mindful Eating journey.
  • I coach face-to-face at my home office in Bournemouth, via the Zoom video-conferencing platform or over the phone – the choice is yours.

Payment plan:  The programme can be paid on a monthly basis – if we had two coaching sessions per month, you would be invoiced just £240 per month.

Mindful Eating Mastery sessions

Once you have completed the Mindful Eating programme, it doesn’t have to end there!  Because there are many opportunities to eat and drink every day, Mindful Eating is a life-long journey and you may experience some detours and bumps in the road.  If you would like further support, you are welcome to book a Mindful Eating Mastery session to help you get back on track.
