This course is for you if:
  • You struggle with your weight but you just can’t stick to your eating plan – life gets in the way and something always knocks you off course. You’d like to understand what’s really going on.
  • You frequently eat when you’re not physically hungry and it’s impacting your weight. You know you’re eating more than your body needs yet the cupboard or fridge always seems to be ‘calling you’.
  • You regularly reward and comfort yourself with food and it seems out of your control. A cup of tea and a biscuit at the end of a long day can easily lead to devouring the whole packet.
  • You find yourself eating when you experience strong emotions, and when the emotion has subsided you’re left with feelings of frustration, guilt and shame.
  • Life is stressful and you seek solace in food. Food represents love, comfort, friendship and a reliable coping mechanism in times of difficulty.

You want to be in charge of your food choices and eating behaviours
instead of food being in charge of you.

Maybe you’ve already tried:
  • The latest diet doing the rounds on social media. You started out with hope and enthusiasm… but that didn’t last for long.
  • Joining a slimming club hoping for support from others in the same boat… but when you struggled, the 1:1 help you needed wasn’t there.
  • Working with a nutritionist who helped you understand what to eat… but you’re still working out why you eat the way you do.
  • Talking to friends and family… but their well-meaning advice doesn’t really fit who you are.
  • Reading up about emotional eating… but making changes by yourself is impossible, life always seems to prioritise other things.

You’ve looked to others for answers with no luck.
You’re starting to realise that you hold the key to overcoming
your emotional eating
challenges.

In the How to overcome Emotional Eating course, I teach you how to uncover the root causes of your emotional eating challenges so you can rediscover a balanced and peaceful relationship with food, eating and body. During the six week course, you will:

  • Understand the many reasons why you eat and what has the most influence over your eating and drinking.  And you learn how to tell the difference between the desire to eat and physical hunger: the genuine need to eat.
  • Understand what emotional eating is and where your emotional eating habits lie along the continuum from pleasure to punishment.
  • Gain clarity on what triggers your emotional eating and take practical steps to resolve them.
  • Take a deep dive into how your thoughts and feelings are driving your emotional eating and learn how to use the power of your mind to your advantage.
  • Learn how to stop emotional eating in its tracks and instead nourish yourself without food.
  • Explore what you’re truly hungry for and how you might be using food as a substitute for something you lack.

“I’ve been lucky enough to work with Emma as she has guided me and my eating habits through the programme. It’s been an eye-opener, an education and a lot of connecting of the dots to make sense of my relationship with food. I highly recommend Emma, she is a qualified coach, Reiki Master and intuitive soul. My journey wouldn’t have been the same without her. And – a happy little by product of this programme – I’ve lost 3kg in 7 weeks!  Still eating whatever I want, just more aware of why I eat! Thanks so much Emma.”

What we’ll cover on the course

Week 1: Introduction to the Eight Hungers of Mindful Eating
In the first week, we get to know each other and establish the foundations of the course.  We then explore the Eight Hungers of Mindful Eating, learning how to untangle desires, thoughts and emotions from the physical experience of hunger.  We practise tuning into the Eight Hungers with a guided Mindful Eating meditation, bringing our full awareness to food and eating. We reconnect with the wisdom of the body to answer the question ‘who’s hungry in there?’

Week 2: Becoming aware of Heart Hunger
We venture into the realms of Heart Hunger, exploring where your emotional eating habits lie on the continuum from pleasure to punishment. We then identify each step in the cycle of emotional eating and uncover why you’re using food to meet your emotional needs. Awareness, and recognising you have a choice, are the first steps in overcoming your emotional eating challenges.

Week 3: Understanding the root causes of your emotional eating
This week, we get crystal-clear on what triggers your emotional eating and explore practical steps to resolve them. We take a deep dive into your internal triggers – your thoughts and feelings – explore where they’ve come from and how they impact your emotional eating.  We learn how to use the power of your mind to your advantage so you can stop negative thinking before it takes hold.

Week 4: Nourishing yourself without food
This is the week you implement everything you’ve learned so far and take action! We learn a Mindfulness practise to help you stop the cycle of emotional eating in its tracks and you choose how you’d like to nourish yourself without food.  We approach this week with a mindset of curiosity and compassion, knowing that when things don’t go to plan, they offer the greatest opportunity for learning.

Week 5: What are you truly hungry for?
So far we have explored your emotional eating challenges and how to overcome them ‘in the moment’.  This week we take a helicopter view and ask what you’re really hungry for: what areas of your life are unfulfilled, what frustrations are you putting up with, what does your heart truly desire?  Not living a life of joy and meaning can leave us with a low-grade sense of dissatisfaction which can contribute to our emotional eating.  We explore how you can ‘fill up’ on your life and stop using food as a substitute for what’s missing.

Week 6: Gratitude for Body and Food
In this final week of the course, we add a little love, kindness and gratitude into the mix to combat negativity and balance your perspective of your food, eating and body challenges.  We close this chapter of your Mindful Eating journey by sharing our insights, achievements and everything we have learned over the six weeks and celebrate how far we have come.

“Emma is a wonderfully practical and knowledgeable coach, whilst also being incredibly intuitive. She would quickly pick up on things and we covered so much more than food in our sessions! It’s really helped me understand what I need to live a nourished and fulfilled life as a whole. I promise that if you sign up with Emma, you will get so much more than you bargained for – it’s the best gift you could give yourself!”

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Does this course include a diet? Will you tell me what I should and shouldn’t be eating?
No, the course is not a diet and we do not discuss food apart from identifying your go-to comfort foods. There is no diet plan or list of foods to eat and foods to avoid – this course is so much more than a diet. It’s about understanding your relationship with food and eating. It explores your emotional eating challenges in depth so you can understand the two key aspects missing from any diet: why you eat and who you are as an eater.

Q. I really want to lose weight, will I do that by following the course?
That depends. If you’ve been using food as a coping mechanism, or to meet your emotional needs, there’s a good chance you’ve been eating when you’re not physically hungry. Eating for emotional reasons, rather than genuine hunger, means you have been eating more food than your body needs. If you are heavier than you would like, this could be one of the reasons why. Overcoming your emotional eating challenges means making changes and if you do, you may lose weight. Having said that, the course is not a quick fix: it requires time, reflection, commitment, making changes and taking action. It works if you work it – and then weight loss is possible!

Q. What is the time commitment?
We will have a two-hour, in-person, online group coaching call one evening every week for six weeks, although you can watch the recordings back should you miss one. There will be home practise in between each call and I suggest allocating about two hours to complete the exercises and home practise. This course also requires putting what you have learned into practice when you eat and drink, and while this does not necessarily require additional time, a willingness to look inward and a level of awareness is necessary throughout the week.

Q. What are the dates and times of the course?
Session 1:  Monday 5 October 2020 from 7pm to 9pm
Session 2:  Monday 12 October 2020 from 7pm to 9pm
Session 3:  Monday 19 October 2020 from 7pm to 9pm
Integration Week – no coaching session on Monday 26 October
Session 4:  Monday 2 November 2020 from 7pm to 9pm
Session 5:  Monday 9 November 2020 from 7pm to 9pm
Session 6:  Monday 16 November 2020 from 7pm to 9pm

Q. What is Integration Week?
The content we cover during the first half of the course takes a deep dive into the food choices and eating habits you’ve probably had for many years.  Becoming aware of your emotional eating and fully understanding all the reasons behind it can take a while and I’ve found that course members appreciate an integration week to catch up on home practise and embed everything they have learned so far. While there is no group coaching session during Integration Week, I am still available via Whatsapp and you can connect with other course colleagues in the Whatsapp / Facebook group.

Q. What happens if I can’t make one of the live teaching calls?
You will get the most value out of the course if you can join as many of the live teaching calls as possible, of course, and if life gets in the way it’s OK to miss one.  A recording of the teaching call will be made available so you can watch it at a time to suit you.

Q: I have signed up to similar courses in the past, what makes yours different?
If overcoming your emotional eating challenges was easy, you would have done it by now. The truth is, this stuff isn’t easy and we all need help. This course not only raises your awareness so you can understand your emotional eating challenges in depth, it gives you the practical tools to choose what action steps you would like to take.  With support from me and your course colleagues, you will be empowered to take those actions and learn from them, deepening your awareness and understanding.

5 steps to success 2

Doing this work as a valued member of a small group comes with a sense of community that cannot be underestimated. Everybody is in the same boat and the support and camaraderie is invaluable. Coupled with personal 1-1 support from me via Whatsapp throughout the course and you have all the ingredients you need to successfully overcome your emotional eating challenges.

Q: Will I need to be confident with technology?
No, I’m not confident with technology either but the Zoom video conferencing platform is very easy. I will provide you with step-by-step instructions on joining the Zoom calls.
